GIC Mexico organizes the webinar Galileo: EU’s Global Navigation Satellite System
The Galileo Information Centre presented the space program of the European Union and existing solutions for PNT (Positioning, Navigation, Timing) based on Galileo and EGNOS.
On the 12th of July 2022, the GIC organized this online webinar in English with the aim of making Galileo and its applications known in the Caribbean region, as well as in the rest of the countries covered by the center. The attendees came from a total of 26 different countries, among which Venezuela, Barbados, Mexico and the Dominican Republic stand out.
Luis Cuervo, head of the Galileo Information Centres in Latin America, spoke on behalf of the European Commission and the Directorate-General for Defence, Industry and Space, welcoming all those present and giving a brief introduction to the European Union’s space programme.
Elena Megías, coordinator of the Galileo Information Center in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, was in charge of presenting the GIC, its objectives and the interesting activities it carries out.
On the other hand, Emilio González from the GNSS Service Center (GSC) presented the characteristics and services of the Galileo program, and the activities carried out in the centre itself, whose main function is to be the interface with the Galileo user community.
Finally, Luca Spazzacampagna (Telespazio S.p.A) presented several innovative navigation services and future technologies for positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) based on Galileo and EGNOS. For the maritime sector he presented the GAIN-GNSS Augmented for Inshore Navigation application (application to track vessels during inshore navigation) and the GAP-GNSS Assisted Port (solution providing higher accuracy and integrity to improve the safety of port operations).

Once again, the organization of this webinar allowed the GIC to promote the European satellite navigation systems (EGNSS) and gave it great visibility to the public in the region who will be aware of the events to come.
