GNSS course online
GNSS online course available on the GIC Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean website.
Among the academic activities carried out by the GIC, the course “Satellite Radionavigation Systems and the new European Galileo System” stands out, written by the Polytechnic University of Madrid, a partner of the consortium in charge of managing the Galileo Information Center (GIC) for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
Last February the course was taught online and in person by three doctors from UNAM, Dr. José Alberto Ramirez, Dr. Rafael Chávez Moreno and Dr. Jorge A. Ferrer Pérez, and had the collaboration of Dr. Miguel A. Salas Natera from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and the coordinator of the Galileo Information Center, Ing. Elena Megias.
The course can now also be taken independently and online by following the 8 videos that have been published on the GIC website with the following modules:
- Introduction to GNSS (brief history of navigation, description, and examples of GNSS)
- Galileo Basics (what is Galileo, services it offers, key points and differentiators)
- GNSS positioning (key positioning concepts, trilateration concept and basic observation equations)
- Main sources of error (sources of error that affect GNSS measurements)
- GNSS performance (accuracy, integrity, availability and continuity)
- Structure of radio signals (structure of signals provided by a constellation of satellites to GNSS receivers)
- Orbits and ephemeris (introduction to the concept of orbit and ephemeris to know the coordinates of the satellites that are being observed)
- Galileo system (key Galileo concepts: applications, architecture, Galileo signal in space and navigation messages)
